At age sixteen I took my first piano lesson and instantly
discovered my passion for music. The rapturous thrill I experienced was almost
overwhelming – it was as if I had glimpsed an entire new universe of immense
beauty.
Nearly equal to my elation was my need to share this new discovery. Thus was
born what would become a life-long study and career. Just four years after that
first lesson, it was a natural and easy progression to begin teaching.
I established my own studio in 1977 and have been teaching, performing and
composing continuously since then.
I’ve successfully trained and mentored a wide range of students in both
performance and composition, including beginners of all ages, professional
performers and other music teachers. Many of them have achieved great success in
performing at auditions, concerts and competitions (both local and
international). Others have received wide acclaim for their original
compositions.
When teaching, I have never believed it helpful to separate the technique of
making music from the music itself. Therefore, I take a holistic approach -
examining every aspect of a work so that it becomes fully internalized and
experienced on all levels; auditory, physical, intellectual and
emotional. I also believe it best to approach each student individually,
carefully considering their needs and goals.
